Tracing Logos With Pen Tool

For my logos assignment I was very confused at first and then after having received help from you in class I realized that this was one of the easiest assignments of the class. Using the Pen Tool and tracing the logos made it easy after you showed me the smoothing tool, Knowing that that exists made me able to make sure all of the lines I made with the Pen Tool were exact and looked nice.

Infographic

I put a lot of time into my infographic. I ended up using the color scheme idea from a picture I saw when you were helping me in class. I think going in that direction make my project a lot better than the way I had originally envisioned it. I also made sure to add in layers and put my text on one, the color blocks on another, and the human outlines on the last one. This made it a lot easier to be able to finish the assignment and not get annoyed by every part moving at once. All in all, I think I did a great job and the facts I used were ones I think are really impactful!

Publication Design (Turtles)

For the Publication Design assignments with the turtles, I made sure to make it aesthetically pleasing. Since this would be in some sort of textbook or academic journal we needed to make sure the words were not distracting but instead helped to convey the message of the text in a more interesting manner. I placed the smaller turtle on his own and on the bottom of the page because I thought it helped to bring the words to a close instead of adding him to the rest of the words like some of the other pictures I used. All in all, I think I did a great job with this assignment.

Simple Poster Design

The Simple Poster assignment from In Design was a lot easier than I expected it to be. I watched the video that was put up about it and following that step by step helped me understand the assignment itself and do it fairly quickly. I liked choosing the colors for the background, I think that’s a pretty fun thing to do, I also enjoyed learning how to work with the rectangle rule because most of this assignment had to do with boxes and placement.

Pear

For the pear design on illustrator I just made sure to make them look as close to what a real pear looks like. I made sure I did that by picking my colors wisely and making sure I places the leaves the correct way, shape, and form.

49 Boxes

For this assignment, I spent a lot of time focusing on how symmetric all of my boxes were and really paying attention to what designs I put where in terms of the shapes inside the boxes. I also just spent a lot of time in general making the designs for each box (using the “Rectangle Tool”, “Rounded Rectangle Tool”, “Ellipse Tool”, “Polygon Tool”, and the “Star Tool”) and making sure that everything I came up with was something I personally was proud of and thought would look nice when eventually copied 4 times and put together at the end. I also think I found some easy ways around the assignment just by really sitting down and taking my time with illustrator and figuring things out for myself. All in all, I am proud of my work and effort for this assignment and I definitely enjoy working with illustrator more than photoshop, though I did love to learn photoshop towards the end of our time with it.

Awareness Poster Design

For the assignment of Awareness Poster Design, I chose my topic to be police brutality. I thought it would be fun to find a cool image to go along with it and words that were impactful. I ended up having 12 layers. This assignment wasn’t as hard as I originally expected it to be, I ended up using a lot of tools that I had already used. I made a few layer masks which helped me put company/ social justice logos at the bottom of the page. I thought this really helped with the whole idea of the poster and how it is supposed to really tie into the NAACP and BLM movements. All around I had fun with this assignment and think I did a good job. I’m pretty proud of it.

Retouching and Editing to Improve

For my 3 Retouching and Editing to Improve assignments, I subtly changed whatever I felt the picture needed. For example, for the first one, I took a picture of myself and changed it by cutting my friend out of the image. I did this by using the spot healing brush and then painting that area white. I also ended up adding a flare to add some more to the photo itself. For the other two pictures I did things similar, for the second picture I made the green of the grass more vibrant so it looked alive and for the third picture I put a color over the whole picture to make the car and the picture look brand new and of high quality. All in all, I learned a lot of new tricks and easier steps throughout this assignment and I am proud of my work.

Working With Layer Masks

For my “Non-Destructive Selections using Layer Masks” assignment I used a lot of new tools on photoshop that I hadn’t previously ever used. For this assignment, when adding in a new photo I needed to blend in order to make it seem natural in the picture. I had to do this a lot when it came to the pictures of David and I. If I didn’t do these the copied and pasted selections would look very out of place and blocky compared to the rest of the photo. I also learned to mask certain pictures or words in order to make it fit with the overall theme of the picture. The word “love” needed a lot of this. I had to meticulously go around and make sure that not only could you accurately see all of the letters, but that the blue of the background didn’t look out of place.

Original Compositions

For the first one of my “Original Compositions”, I was a little more creative than I thought I could be. I started finding random pictures from google images, all centered around this one picture of the woods that I found. I then added in different selection layers, an eagle, a coyote, a picture of a “Sasquatch” and an umbrella. I also took the creative liberty of adding in words to the top of the picture, “terror”, “pain”, “sadness”, and “fear”. I got that idea after I change the tint of the picture to a reddish tone. All in all, I am very proud of this piece I made.

For the second one of my “Original Compositions”, I chose to center the entire piece around the color blue. I started off by filling in the remaining white space in the background because my image was originally too small for the criteria of this assignment. Then I added in a layer mask of two women in the water, added a shark’s fin, used the healing brush tool to add in more sand to the bottom of the picture and make it seem more realistic. Later on, I added in some sea shells and after made sure they matched the color scheme I was going for, blue.  All in all, this picture took me the longest but is by far the most helpful when it came to really learning my way around photoshop.
